Getting to Know San Francisco

Getting off the BART downtown on Tuesday, I immediately noticed how diverse and busy this city is. Seeing that, I felt relief that this trip would bring uncommon experiences. So far I haven’t been able to see much but the initial impression given is that there seem to be several very distinct neighborhoods, all offering their own version of San Francisco. This is a city that takes a while to get to know.

Tonight I break off from my professional group (which has been a lot of fun) and jump into exploring. I’ll be staying in a hostel for the first time ever in a U.S. city. I’m wondering who will be there and if I will pick up any friends for the weekend. Hopefully tomorrow includes a look at murals and art in Mission and catching a sunset over the Pacific. I’ve got loose plans to check out some Redwoods but there aren’t clear public transit options, making it a bit tricky.

The weather is gorgeous and this city feels very safe. I’m really excited to see what the weekend brings.
